  1. How can I batch render on SANmp?

    Hello, If you need for multiple computers to write to a volume simultaneously, you would probably be better off with a NAS share than a SANmp disk. NAS shares have gotten very competitive in speed with some recent improvements, and an EVO is capable of exporting storage as either. If you have SAN storage that can't do this, you could mount a SANmp volume on a workstation and share it out using a NAS protocol such as SMB also. There are multi-writer SAN protocols also, such as XSan, but they can be difficult to support. Thanks, Jason

  3. Hello, We have noticed what seems to be a bug in newer versions of Mac OS relating to high bandwidth iSCSI transfers, especially using 10G connections. We have notified Apple, but we haven't received any indication that they intend to fix it. As a consequence, we enabled the header and data digests by default to catch these errors and ensure a reliable data stream. We don't recommend attempting your backups without error correction, but if you'd like to test the difference in speed, you could set up a test that doesn't use production data. The impact of the extra calculations for the error correction may be high or low depending on the capabilities of the workstation, so we can't make any sort of blanket statements. Thanks, Jason
  4. Hi Mike, The globalSAN initiator is simply a connection mechanism. Once the disk is connected, Mac OS will recognize a filesystem and mount that filesystem at /Volumes/FilesystemName. If that is not happening, then either globalSAN is not actually making the connection, or else the filesystem isn't being recognized and therefore is not being mounted. Typically, our customers are using SANmp as well as globalSAN. In that case, the volumes are only mounted when the user directs SANmp to mount them. If no SAN management software is in use, the OS should mount the volumes automatically. However, if more than one workstation attempts to connect at the same time, they would both have write access, which would corrupt the volume. Are you using any SAN management software? Thanks, Jason
  5. Hi Glenn, We see now that you said you had autosync set to 30 seconds. The "autosync" feature in SANmp Client is intended to do exactly what you want. After the autosync interval is set in SANmp Admin, the SANmp Client workstations would need to log out and back in again to see the change. It's possible that the sync is being prevented under normal usage. If any application has a file or folder open on the volume that will prevent the sync from completing properly. You note that sync works properly if done manually. Are you doing anything different when using the manual sync process, such as closing out of applications? Thanks, Jason

  7. Hello Phantom, If you have ShareBrowser available, then your EVO system version would have to be 5.5 or later, up to the current 5.8 version. ShareBrowser keeps an index of files on shares so that they can be browsed even when the share is not available. What you're seeing is expected and usually desirable. In your case, the share has been destroyed, so you understandably want to delete this index from the database as well. You can do this through ShareBrowser Admin by selecting the volume and clicking the "Volume Maintenance" button. Choose the "Delete" tab on that window, and you will be able to delete this volume from ShareBrowser's database.   9. Hello Brendan, The globalSAN software does include a command-line interface. It is stored at /opt/local/bin/gsutil and it has the following options: (-l) --list (-s) --shortlist (-v) --verboselist (-c) --connect <UUID> (-d) --disconnect <UUID> (-P) --persistent-on <UUID> (-p) --persistent-off <UUID> You'll first want to use list to discover the UUID for the particular connection, and then you can use the connect/disconnect options.     That text should be stored into a file called "SANmp Admin GUI.exe.config" in the same folder where "SANmp Admin GUI.exe" is (in this case, "C:\Program Files (x86)\SANmp\Admin\"). The same is true for SANmp Client in the Client folder.
  11. Hello, We officially recommend direct Ethernet (Gigabit or faster), partly because slower or more complicated connection mechanisms are less reliable and difficult to support. There's nothing in the software that blocks any specific network topology, but one of my colleagues tried port forwarding and had trouble also. We were theorizing that even if it did connect and get a list of targets, it would get a list of target paths that would be wrong, so you would probably have to manually add the path also. Our best conjecture is that another port is probably used for some additional communication. We hope you understand why we're not sending the question to our development team, however, since this is definitely not a supported configuration. Best of luck, Jason

  14. Hi Stef, That's a tricky situation. SANmp in trial mode is not allowed to do anything with volumes that are in non-trial mode. You'll need a fully licensed SANmp Admin (using the dongle) to unconvert that disk. If I understand correctly, that dongle is at the set, and not with you. You could ship the array back there, like you say. You could also have them ship the Admin dongle to you, if that's more convenient. There might be a third option. If you can get the array connected to the internet in such a way that someone could remotely connect using iSCSI, we may be able to help.   15. Intelligent bandwidth control

    Hello cyberworldbd, We have no products that do this sort of thing. On my home machine, though, my firewall does some Quality-of-Service packet filtering like what you're describing. I recommend looking into the "Hierarchy Token Bucket" traffic shaper: http://linux.die.net/man/8/tc-htb If you're wanting to do this with a SAN volume or other media access, I've got to warn you that there is some increase in latency for any sort of packet inspection or routing.
