  1. globalSAN v.5.3.1.555 (High Sierra compatibility) has been released to the public. globalSAN v.5.3.1 is a free upgrade for users who already have a permanent key for version 5.x. If you have a trial key for an earlier build, upgrading to v.5.3.1 will allow you to reset the initiator's trial period. During the initiator's trial period, only one connection may be established at a time and persistent connections can't be enabled. An expired trial can be renewed only when a new build is released. To purchase a permanent key, unlock the globalSAN preference pane and click the License button. Follow the on-screen instructions to purchase and retrieve your permanent key for this computer. globalSAN v.5.3.1 requires a genuine Apple Intel Mac running 10.8 or later, and a Gigabit Ethernet connection with Cat 5e cable or better. Check the installer's readme file for version history. Important note! macOS High Sierra (not officially released by Apple at the time of this writing) will introduce a new security feature that requires user approval before loading new third-party kernel extensions. You must allow these signed system extensions to be used (Security & Privacy System Preferences Pane) for the "Studio Network Solutions" software you've installed, and a reboot may be required after enabling the extensions. If you also choose the Sentinel Runtime option during installation (for Xtarget licensing) you will also need to allow the system extension from "SFNT Germany GmbH," who provides the driver software for the HASP USB dongle for Xtarget licensing. "SFNT Germany GmbH" is not affiliated with SNS. New Features & Licensing Changes No new features in this release Fixes This build is a cleanup that includes a few issues that were found, fixed, and provided on-demand to a small number of users since v.5.3 was released. Addressed an issue with activation key [GLO-424] Fixed an issue causing Xtarget's checkbox to be invisible in Sierra [GLO-446] Fixed a KP that could occur when using CHAP under Sierra [GLO-441] Thanks for using globalSAN!
  2. Just wanted to inform everyone that today we rolled out the ability to purchase the globalSAN initiator through PayPal. Also, by popular request, we've included a payment method that enables your company to buy the initiator with an invoice. To purchase with an invoice, login to your globalSAN.net account and choose the "PayPal with Invoice" method, which will generate an invoice and send to you via email. You can then pay the invoice or submit it to your company's purchasing department. Once the invoice is paid you will receive a notification that your license has been deposited. So now there are three ways to purchase the initiator online: Google Wallet "Buy Now" PayPal "Buy Now" PayPal "With Invoice" Thanks for your feedback!
  3. Please see this article in our KB. If you are still unable to retrieve your license please contact our support team.
  4. We're happy to announce that Version 4.3 of SANmp for Mac and Windows has been released to the public. Before installing, please note: Before upgrading from any previous version of SANmp it is strongly recommended that you disconnect from the SAN and uninstall (with that version's uninstaller) any existing installations of SANmp. The Client and Admin are bundled into one installer. To install SANmp Admin, launch the SANmp installer and choose the Customize option. You'll be able to install Admin and Client at the same time with only one restart cycle. If you are using SANmp to setup a new SAN, you will need to enable "Allow Unconverted SAN Volumes" in SANmp Admin to convert your disks. The 52mm Sentinel HASP keys (a.k.a. USB dongles) are incompatible with SANmp as of version 4.3. If you are unsure which key you have please see this article in our KB. Please review the readme.txt file and Help documents (in the installer) for more information about this new version. New Features, Improvements, Bug Fixes (relative to v.4.2) Core compatibility with ShareBrowser v.4.3. Aside from ShareBrowser compatibility only very minor bug fixes and improvements were included in this release. For immediate updates, follow Studio Network Solutions on Twitter. Visit our website for more information on SANmp.
  5. EVO Version 5.8 and ShareBrowser v.4.3 include many new features and improvements to scalability, performance, feature parity, setup, and reliability. Some of the most notable additions are summarized below. If you purchased an EVO storage system that is currently at OS v.5.x your hardware is compatible with this release. Please contact us to determine if you are eligible for a free upgrade to this latest version of the EVO OS. Before upgrading the OS version on your EVO, it is imperative that you review the user manual and plan for any changed functionality. Further, although an update to the newer version can be done with data in-place, a backup of all critical data should be completed and verified before beginning the update. You should also plan for a reboot, which will be required immediately after the upgrade process has finished. In addition to these highlighted items, there are many other improvements and options, which are documented in the relevant sections of the EVO GUI's Help manual. EVO OS v.5.8 Release Notes New Features and Improvements Virtual Switch enables EVO's Ethernet ports to function like an Ethernet switch [EVO-889] Introduced Final Cut Pro X Library locking (via ShareBrowser) on NFS share [EVO-2195] ShareBrowser database backup to an EVO NAS share can now be scheduled and automated [EVO-1727] NAS shares can now be selectively and permanently deleted [EVO-1664] (BETA Preview) An EVO can now transcode media on its own NAS shares, for ShareBrowser proxies [EVO-1775] (BETA Preview) An EVO can now index files on its own NAS shares, for ShareBrowser use [EVO-1898] Improved responsiveness of web GUI [EVO-1614] Support for new Intel-based EVO 8 bay [EVO-2112] Read-only option now available for AD/LDAP Groups [EVO-1922] Dots, underscores, and dashes now allowed in LDAP/AD usernames [EVO-2085] New ShareBrowser Server menu added to simplify ShareBrowser configuration [EVO-2092] Ethernet port throughput monitor added (under Hardware Profile) [EVO-1977] SMBv3 added as an option for SMB protocol (under Advanced) [EVO-1921] New test tools for Ethernet ports added to web GUI (under Troubleshooting) [EVO-2208] Improved handling when expansion chassis not on/connected during boot sequence [EVO-1666] System info push utility added for technical support assistance [EVO-2170] ShareBrowser v.4.3 Companion Existing users: Important information regarding ShareBrowser configuration for this upgrade: After upgrading you will now have the capability to have EVO automatically backup your ShareBrowser database to one of the NAS shares on your EVO. If you have not selected a backup location for your database you will see a large red alert banner at the top of EVO's web GUI until the backup location is selected. There have been major changes to the indexer in this release. These changes were made with the goal of making significant improvements, particularly to reduce indexing times. But with these changes there is special handling for upgrade situations: The default logic for indexer behavior has changed. Please review the harvesting rules for your indexer(s) in ShareBrowser Admin. If you have any custom file type groups defined (most customers do not use this function), these will not be preserved in the upgrade. Volumes will have no indexer assigned after the update (your scheduling settings will be preserved). The default setting on upgrade is to exclude all files from the extended metadata harvesting operation. Most customers will want to reset this. If you prefer ALL files to have any extended metadata harvested please set the Exclude File Group dropdown to "No files" in ShareBrowser Admin. It will be required to update your ShareBrowser software (and SANmp if you're using it) as part of this upgrade. SANmp v.4.2 was previously in an extended beta period: New operating systems were released, which consequently prolonged the originally planned beta cycle -- during this time we gathered feedback from a large install base and addressed issues. Before installing, please note: Before upgrading from any previous version of SANmp it is strongly recommended that you disconnect from the SAN and uninstall (with that version's uninstaller) any existing installations of SANmp. The Client and Admin are now bundled into one installer. To install SANmp Admin, launch the SANmp installer and choose the Customize option. You'll be able to install Admin and Client at the same time with only one restart cycle. 8. Hi paulf (and other EQL users), Case 208219 (October, 2014) led to engineering issue GLO-391, which is unfortunately at a dead end because we could not reproduce the reported behavior with our EqualLogic array, and the tcpdump requested to do further investigation was apparently not provided. (Apologies if we somehow missed it.) If you have an EqualLogic array that is behaving similarly please comment here and/or open a case so that we can continue our analysis. We would love to have a tcpdump that captures this problem in action! To produce the dump: Open Terminal and enter sudo tcpdump -i en0 -s 65535 -w ~/Desktop/tcpdump (where en0 is the iSCSI connection). Reproduce the behavior, and then hit Ctrl+C in the Terminal to stop the tcpdump. The generated file will be on the desktop; please send it to our support team and reference this thread, or case 208219, or GLO-391. Thanks, Eric

  10. I see. Regarding option 1, I'm not sure if the OS X recovery partition would have all of the dependencies needed for globalSAN to work properly. Are you going to give it a try??! If so, it would be great to hear about it!
  11. Hi thekrynn, from your description I think it sounds like your ESXi server is being blocked simply because of a trial-mode limitation in Xtarget. (You can only establish connections from a globalSAN iSCSI initiator in Xtarget trial mode.) There's more info on this on page 37 of the Xtarget 5.2 manual.
  12. OS X 10.10 (aka "Yosemite") was released yesterday. We have been testing the current shipping build of globalSAN (v.5.2.0.429) with various developer previews of Yosemite as they were released. At this time we know of no globalSAN issues/incompatibilties caused as a direct result of upgrading to Yosemite. Please reply here if you have successfully been using the current version of globalSAN with versions of OS X prior to Yosemite and you believe you have discovered an issue with globalSAN after upgrading to the GM build of Yosemite 10.10 (Build 14A389).
  13. Please contact us and reference this post if you would like to preview a version of the initiator with support for CTL.
  14. Sorry for the inconvenience! Please have a look at the How do I setup my new EVO? article in our new KB. From there, you can login to our support system and grab the latest EVO Help manual.

  16. Hi vibrobloc, et al, We've been testing the initiator with preview builds of Yosemite and currently don't see any blocking issues in our environment. Of course, every new build of a preview OS will present the risk of introducing something that could create a new incompatibility with previously released software... We welcome your feedback — good or bad — on results of testing globalSAN under a preview build of OS X. Thanks!
  17. Just closing the loop on this one for the benefit of others reading this thread... We responded yesterday to this issue. Please note that our users' forum is primarily a community-based user-to-user assistance service. If you experience an EVO outage please create a ticket in our support system. Thanks!

  22. Hi Brian, The changelogs can be found in the installers for each new version, in the automatic update notification itself, and in our 3'>Product Announcements forum.
  23. I neglected to mention that the logout command is actually sent, but the socket disconnection may occur too early after that so the target may consider that it is not sent.
  24. Thanks for the report. We are investigating. Could you please let us know what target you're using, and what consequence you observe from this issue aside from logging errors? Also, I'd like to clarify from your post topic... Did you observe the same behavior with versions of OS X older than Mavericks? Your title said "bugs" (plural) -- did you find another issue? If so, please let us know. Depending on our findings this will be corrected in the next public version. Best regards, Eric
